Vehicle database

In the process of traffic accident reconstruction it is absolutely essential to acquire accurate data about the involved vehicles. The measuremnts after the accident are usually unreliable and even impossible, so the data has to be obtained from elsewhere. Following this needs, we have cooperated with the German company IbB from Wiesbaden in setting up and maintaining a vehicle database. The current database contains data about geometrical and mass properties, driving properties, drive train, brakes, date of production etc. Currently there is one database available that contains data about all vehicle categories and contains over 2300 vehicles. The 3D model of driving dynamics requires more input data (a more detailed geometry, the data about stiffnesses and damping properties of various vehicle structures etc.), therefore we had to add this data into the new database. Because of different categories of vehicles, the structure of the new database has been changed. In the new database every vehicle category has its own set of data and is stored in its own table within the database. This lowers storage space requirements for the database and eliminates the need to change the entire structure of the database when changes are made to mathematical model of a single type of vehicles. To browse and edit the database we  have developed a stand-alone application with capability of data transfer to CARAT 3 accident reconstruction program.
