Verification of simulation results
For verification of the simulation results we use the following equipment: Vericom VC2000PC-Tach performance computer with integrated ± 5 G accelerometer, Vericom Data Acquisition Box for connecting up to 16 external sensors to the VC2000PC-Tach, external 3-axis accelerometer with ± 10 G range, external 1-axis accelerometer with ± 50 G range, external 1-axis accelerometer with ± 400 G range, tachometer for measuring engine shaft angular velocity, load cell for measuring brake pedal force.
All the equipment provides easy instalation into conventional vehicles without modification on the vehicle itself.
The VC2000PC computer measures acceleration and calculates velocity and distance from this measurement. All the measured data can be transfered to a personal computer for further evaluation and graphical display.
For more complex measurements we also use a modular measuring system that consists of a PXI portable measurement computer with modules for analogue and digital data acquisition. It is mainly used for measuring road parameters and has the follwing sensors connected to it: three three-axial ± 25 G accelerometers, contactless sensor of velocity and distance Corrsys-Datron S-400, inertial measuring system iMAR iVRU-FC-167C with built-in GPS and magnetometer aiding, wire transducer for displacement measurement, rotational incremental encoder for angle and rotational velocity measurement, various potentiometers for angle measurements (e.g. steering wheel angle, accelerator position etc.), USB camera Philips ToUCam 740. The system also provides means for connecting hig-speed cameras and additional sensors. It is possible to mount the system to varios vehicles without major adaptations. The system is currently installed in a measuring vehicle and used for various driving dynamics parameter measurements. For more information, please send an inquiry per e-mail.
In cooperation with Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Roads we have developed a mobile system for digital filming of roads. It consists of a digital camera, a contactless vector velocity and distance sensor, an inertial measurement system and a processing computer. The digital video and geometry data is included into various databases of the Slovenian road network.
The system is described in the article Ambrož, M.; Šušteršič, G.; Prebil, I. "Creating models of road sections and their use in driving dynamics simulations" Vehicle System Dynamics: International Journal of Vehicle Mechanics and Mobility, vol. 45, iss. 10, October 2007. (http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/00423110701538270).
The appliction of the system with some additional functionality is described in the following papers:
